FREE PLAYSTATION 3

As we close out the month of October, I wanted to check out what the top downloads were for PSP games.  Some of them shocked me, some were no surprise.  However, I do have to say that I got my head chewed off for saying Gran Turismo was a great game.  Look at what the #1 download is and then get back to me! lol.  Out of all the picks on the list, I have to say that I was quite disappointed with Tetris being on there.  I guess it really has solidifed its place as a timeless classic, but it gets old after awhile in my opinion.

According to Playstation Pulse, the following games are the top 10 downloaded PSP games for the month of October:

FREE PLAYSTATION 3

1. Gran Turismo PSP

2. God of War: Chains of Olympus

3. Final Fantasy VII

4. Tetris

5. Madden NFL 10

6. Prinny: Can I Really be the Hero?

7. PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe

8. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

9. Hero of Sparta

10. Metal Gear Solid

Again, I love Gran Turismo and am not surprised it topped the list.  I will say that one shocker on there was Prinny: Can I Really be the Hero?  Are you serious?  I think that one involved a huge error where people didn't mean to click and download it.  I'm also very surprised that Metal Gear Solid placed as low as it did.  That is usually much more of a popular game.
If you'll notice there are two Playstation One classic games on there: MGS and Final Fantasy.  I think those will prove to be two games that live on.  Forget about Tetris already!

I hope you guys have a safe Halloween weekend with lots of candy thrown at you!

If anyone's been keeping track of the latest PSP news, they would have heard the news about PSP's very first minis game to be powered by Vicious Cycle software.

According to Martin Brouard, Executive Producer of Frima Studio, "For our first minis title, we wanted to make something that would stand out from the crowd both technically and artistically.  The Vicious Engine has helped us take full advantage of the PSP's power while still keeping Zombie Tycoon within the size limit for a minis title." (IGN.com)

In case anyone's been hiding under a rock, let me give you a little synopsis of the game.  Zombie Tycoon is about a small town where strange noises are heard at night.  There is a lab where experiments are conducted (obviously popular for video games) and a formula is developed to turn people into zombies.  The point of this game is to pass all ten levels and achieve world domination.  World domination? That's never been done before either! haha.

Remember, this is going to be a PSP MINI title and can be purchased for $7.99.

Happy Hump Day! ;-)

Halloween is just a couple days away and what better gift to give someone than one of the scariest games on PSP...Manhunt 2.  I know gifts are typically not given for Halloween, but someone has to change that!  Gifts should be given year round.  Anyhow, this game would be perfect for some people to get together and play on Halloween night if they have no costumes and no parties to go to.  Even if you have plans, you should cancel them to play this game.

Let me give you a little synopsis:

The story started out when Dr. Daniel Lam almost lost his job.  In order to keep his career and support his wife and two children, he has to volunteer to be a guinea pig at the hospital he works at.  Funding has been pulled and that's his only hope.  (How realistic, right?)  All the experiments done on his magically happen to go wrong, and he is forced to live out the rest of his days in an insane asylum.  One day there is a power failure in the entire building from a storm, and Daniel must go through different obstacles in order to escape.  There are some freaky looking people Dr. Lam comes in contact with in this game.

I picked manhunt specifically because I think asylums are freaky places to begin with.  The situations and the people he comes in contact with are no joke, especially if you plan on playing in the dark!

If you have access to the first Manhunt, some might argue that one is scarier.  However, I chose manhunt 2 because it is more recent.  You might want to push your nerves and play both of them.  Spoooooookkkyyyy!

First off, thank you to everybody who gave me feedback on yesterday's article.  That's how I'm able to find things to include in here for you all.  Since so many great games have been coming out, I  thought I'd share a list of my 5 favorite games on PSP so far.  I know someone's going to disagree with me on this list, but listen to reason before you start crying.  Also, let me remind you these picks are from a female's perspective.  I will yell at anyone who disagrees!

5) Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice

OK.  First of all, this game is one of the best action games available on the PSP.  There are explosions everywhere for no reason.  The entire game, you're shooting in a high speed car chase, or over water.  The best part, you never run out of ammo!  Out of all the action games, this is one that can be played for long periods of time without getting bored.

4) Silent Hill Origins

If anyone's ever seen the Silent Hill movie, they would already know that it is CREEPY!!!  The reason I like this game is because it attempts to tell you how the town became as morbid as it did.  In terms of horror games, this one did it for me.  You gotta have something with a scary story line every once in a while.  Just a note, this is not something to play by yourself at night in the dark if you're a squeemish blonde chick!

3) Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories

Anyone who has owned any sort of gaming console knows about Grand Theft Auto.  There should not be any question as to why this game is on my list.  It is awesome, entertaining, and it rocks!

2) Rock Band Unplugged

The only reason this game is on here is because I had such huge doubts about it being played on a PSP.  This is my favorite game on the Playstation 3 for sure, but that's because I can rock out on guitar, drums, or a mic.  I was very apprehensive about purchasing this, but I played it beforehand.  This game is great if you're sitting around looking for something to do.  Funnily enough, I happen to do that very often. :-)

And now, my pick for #1 PSP game...drumroll....

1) Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

I know this pic doesn't represent the game, but I figured I'd annoy some of you men and put one of the only girls in the game as the main shot. HAHA.  The graphics in this game are still pretty amazing almost four years later.  The complexity of each mission is what keeps you on your toes while playing and keeps the PSP in your hands as well.  Good job, Kojima!

Not bad for my first top five, I think.  In case anyone didn't notice, each game covers a different genre of video game.  I'm not the type to list two horror games or three racing games.  We needed some variety.  Anyone disagree with my choices?  Let me know.

Hey guys,

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I'm just now getting a chance to slow down. So, the PSP Go has been out a little over three weeks now, and I'm wondering if anybody has anything to say about it. At $250, it seems kind of steep considering you can just get a regular PSP. For this price, I'll stick with my current PSP and Playstation 3.

In a review from IGN.com:

There is no question, the PSPgo is by far the most visually appealing PSP yet. With a 56% smaller design than the original PSP and a sleek slide-out screen, the PSPgo is quite alluring at first glance. However, upon further inspection and use, the imperfections of the system's design begin to become apparent. For anyone who has owned or used the previous PSPs, the PSPgo's compact design is a bit of a tactile shock. The PSPgo takes over an inch and a half off of the width of the PSP-3000, and trims a few extra millimeters off of the height and depth. The width reduction ultimately has little effect on user experience in terms of ergonomics, instead, problems arise when the thickness of the unit is split in half when the collapsible screen is extended.

Disregard the little man ruining the picture. lol

My opinion is this- yes, it looks nice and has a couple of added features.  However, it looks like it really wasn't made for player comfort!  The rear portion of the Go has rubber supports, but they really don't do anything in terms of grip.  Another thing to look at is that when the screen extends, you really only have like 1/4 of an inch with which to play on the pad.  I haven't been able to check what one looks like when playing, but I'm curious as to the quality.

If anyone's got the PSP Go, send me a comment to let me know what you think. I wonder how it's doing sales wise compared to the Nintendo DSi released back in April!

Happy Friday everyone! Welcome to my brand new blog on the PSP Playstation Portable!!! Let me just start out by saying that if anyone has anything in particular they would like me to write an article on, just send a quick note. My purpose in doing this is to retrieve some information for everyone on the best gaming system ever! I have been using Playstations since I could remember, but the PSP lets me play anywhere.

Just so that everyone keeps an eye out for these, here is a list of some great games coming out (or that have just been released) for PSP:

- Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

-FIFA Soccer 10

-Marvel Super Hero Squad

-Astro Boy

-Mahjongg Artifacts: Chapter 2, for you computer nerds.

One more game I’d like to mention, even though it was released a few weeks ago is the new Gran Turismo. BUY IT! If anyone has been seeing the commercials on TV, you would see how awesome it is. 800 cars, 35 courses!!! That’s one game I still have not gotten sick of. I don’t know about everyone else, but I will play any racing game for hours.

If you want an idea of what Gran Turismo is like, read this review from Videogamer.com:

I was comparing a game on Sony's small handheld to full-blown next-gen titles. What I was playing felt like a console game and I got a sense of excitement that only the handheld's greatest titles had evoked in the past. This really is the Gran Turismo experience on a handheld that everyone's been waiting for.
That's probably all most of you needed to read. The Gran Turismo series has been setting the driving benchmark for years, so to have that experience on a handheld is remarkable. Certain things have been changed so the game feels more like something to play here and there while on the move, which has the knock-on effect of making things feel quite basic to begin with. There's no career mode as such, with the single-player menu simply presenting you with three variables: Mode selection (Time Trial, Single Race and Drift Trial), Car Selection and Track Selection. The player able to pick and choose circuits and vehicles, with credits earned based on the difficulty, performance and number of laps you've chosen.

Happy playing, and I hope everyone has a safe weekend!
